This workshop will provide insights into the most common hardware communication protocols and how to crack them to gain access to sensitive data on the devices, or make devices behave differently.
What’s in it for me as a student?
Smartphones, drones, set-top boxes, smart TVs, IP cameras and IOT devices are all part of our everyday lives. We enjoy, cherish and take them everywhere we go. However, are the wonderful functionalities and fun they bring to our lives, a good reason to trust them?
Remember that they sometime hold the most valuable information we have, can open our garage door, turn on our lights or provide us wireless connection to the Internet.
With hands on exercises, participants will have to identify manufacturers’ backdoors, eavesdrop communication lines, gain access to firmware and modify it to use a device in a way it is not intended to work.
You will have to find the credentials of IP cameras or routers and perform a variety of exercises on our custom training board. Participants can bring their own devices if they wish to investigate how secure they are, or if they just forgot the administrator password!
How does it look?
The Hardware Hacking course includes practical, hands-on sessions where participants can learn and practice their skills in a real-world environment.
The Soldering session teaches the participants to build an electronic circuit using guided instructions by soldering the correct components (in the correct way) on a printed circuit board.
A Capture The Flag event will be hosted where participants can battle against each other by submitting the flags they can obtain by solving a practical challenges.
Experience with multiple tools such as Multi-meter, Logic Analyzer and EEPROM Programmers will be acquired throughout the training.
Participants will learn how to identify components in real hardware and understand which of these components contain valuable data or logic.
You will learn through theoretical lessons and practical hands-on exercises, the basics of hardware hacking. In addition, you will take home:

- Online resources
- And prizes for the hacker of the day!
During the Firmware Analysis exercises participants will learn the software side of Hardware Hacking by reversing, decoding and examining the contents of the firmware.
