IOT Village

15th - 17th OCT
9:00 - 17:00

Exhibition Area

Organized by security consulting and research firm Independent Security Evaluators (“ISE”), IoT Village advocates for advancing security in the Internet of Things (IoT) industry. IoT Village travels to conferences around the world to host talks by expert security researchers, interactive hacking labs/experiences, and/or competitive IoT hacking contests. Over the years, IoT Village has uncovered more than 300 new vulnerabilities and educated countless attendees and sponsors about the most innovative techniques to both hack and secure IoT.

Key Activities / Agenda

Attendees will have the opportunity to break into the mock set’s network to complete as many cyber physical hacks as possible. The hacks will combine together resulting in an IoT device doing something visually or auditorily. There will be a mix of devices networked together – some with known vulnerabilities, some without. However, every device has functionality that may be abused.

Attendees will get hands on experience by exploiting common security issues that plague IoT:

  • Default credentials
  • Credential exposure through improper access controls
  • OS-CMDi
  • Authorization bypass
  • Improper network configuration

Attendees will also learn about and be able to try different hacking techniques:

  • Device pivoting
  • Networking scanning
  • Using linux utils for offensive purposes
    • nmap
    • ssh
    • curl
    • proxychains
    • nc

Attendees will gain exposure or experience on attacking different elements in IoT:

  • Device admin web applications
  • Abusing device open ports and their protocols
  • Maliciously combining multi device functionality

Devices Avaiable:

  • *Router
  • *Network Attached Storage
  • *Media streaming device box
  • *IP camera
  • Smart speaker
  • Network printer
  • Smart TV
  • Smart home assistant
  • Wireless lights and control hub
  • Smart kettle
  • Smart baby monitor
  • Smart electrical plug

*devices with known vulnerabilities
